Minjum’s story

Minjum dropped out of state high school when she couldn’t face other student’s reaction to her pregnancy and felt she didn’t fit in at a conventional school. She later enrolled at Southside as a year 11 student. Attending school while raising her young son and living independently, Minjum went on to successfully complete a Certificate III in Business and the Queensland Certificate of Education, as she wanted to become someone her child “looks up to”.
She was later awarded an Australian Vocational Student Prize and a Prime Minister’s award after taking part in a school-based traineeship in Business Administration which saw her working one day each week and attending school for the remaining four.

Putting her young son as her first priority, Minjum’s determined character combined with the support and encouragement from caring staff at Southside, all led to her success.
