A message from our CEO
In times of crisis, it is wonderful to know that Carinity’s people care so much about those we support. This was once again demonstrated over the past few months as Queensland’s weather presented Carinity with numerous challenges – at opposite ends of the state.
When Townsville experienced significant flooding, it presented challenges across all our services in the city. Carinity Education Shalom had to close and ensure our students and staff were able to get home safely. Our home care service had to adjust its support to our clients to ensure our most vulnerable seniors received care, while ensuring the safety of our employees.
Our residential aged care communities are the most Carinity communities are full of fun, activities and smiles. We hope you enjoy these snaps of some of our aged care residents
and home care clients living a life with purpose. challenging to safeguard during natural disasters, given we provide care to vulnerable, elderly people on a 24-hours-a day, seven-days-a-week basis. This was reiterated not only when flooding affected Fairfield Grange in Townsville, but when several aged care sites in southeast Queensland were impacted by Cyclone Alfred. The weather and resulting floodwaters had the greatest impact on Carinity
services – and our staff – in places such as Laidley, Brisbane, and the Gold Coast.
Thanks to our teams, who worked tirelessly over extended periods, those we are called to care for were safe. Flooding in both north and southern Queensland affected the ability of our staff to get to work – yet our people rose to the occasion.
Some staff slept overnight at their workplace to ensure continuity of care for seniors, and we offered remote support for non-direct care tasks. Volunteers from Brisbane travelled to support the Townsville team, and vice versa.
The dedication of our employees, many of whom worked significant extra hours, meant that our aged care residents, and the young people in our accommodation services, remained well cared for and that our home care and disability clients were well prepared to wait out Cyclone Alfred at home.
I know that each day Carinity has countless people going above and beyond. I applaud the exceptional efforts of our tremendous people.
