Connect for Mental Health
Queensland Mental Health Week (QMHW) is an annual awareness initiative that takes place in the week of World Mental Health Day on 10 October.
The theme is ‘Connect for mental health’, emphasising the proactive measures we can adopt to nurture and support positive mental health and wellbeing for ourselves and our communities.
Throughout QMHW, hundreds of local and regional events will be held around the state, including a Health & Wellness Expo at the Carinity Fassifern Community Centre.
Good mental health is essential at every stage of life as it impacts your thoughts, behaviours and emotions. Carinity published an article last year called Minding Your Mental Health, which discusses how focusing on your mental wellbeing can lead to a higher quality of life.
Tips for a healthy mind
The Queensland Government’s Dear Mind website explores the six building blocks of mental wellbeing:
- Get healthy – Be active, eat well, get enough sleep
- Keep learning – Challenge your mind and seek out new things
- Show kindness – Give back, show gratitude and bring joy to other’s lives
- Connect more – Develop relationships, stay connected and care for each other
- Take notice – Be mindful, stay in the moment, experience the world around you
- Embrace nature – Step outside, connect with the natural world and take care of the planet
